…9/11/01 – It’s hard to believe that it’s been twelve years since that fateful day when 2996 lives were lost in the terrorist tragedies that swept across the United States. The time may have passed by quickly but the pain still remains for those affected by it. New York was obviously the worst hit when Osama Bin Laden thought it was a good idea to have a band of his terrorist militants fly two aircrafts into the World Trade Centre. The bastard may be long gone now but his regime is still going strong and causing problems for the world.
What were you doing when tragedy struck on 9/11? I remember the day it happened like it was yesterday. I was working at an entertainment resort in Bognor Regis at the time and one of the holiday makers came running in asking if we had seen the news. He preceded to tell us that a plane had crashed into one of the towers in New York. At first we all thought it was an accident and only a small aircraft, we never realised it was a jet carrying hundreds of people. Let alone that someone would do it deliberately! The rest of the day was pretty hazy as we began to realise that the world was under attack from terrorists. All the airports closed and were put on high alert. We even got a call to say that they were putting us on medium alert. The lass I was working with was panicking that we were going to get bombed after that. That night I watched the events on TV. I remember the speech George Bush gave and no disrespect to the Americans, that was the only time I had any respect for him. Seeing the images made it look like a blockbuster Hollywood movie. A sick one at that, but it didn’t seem real.
Now twelve years on, the threat of terrorism is still very real. Syria being top of the list at the moment after the chemical attack last month. Why can’t the world just live in peace? Why do we have to go round blowing each other up? Think about the children of the world. I want my son to grow up and have the chance to have a life, not live in fear that some nobhead terrorist is going to blow up something nearby! God speed to all the kind people of the world who want to live in peace…
